Fashion Week In New York And Met Gala Will Continue With Covid Alerts, And Strong America-Based Themes

^{New York Fashion Week and The Met Gala are moving forward, but there are provisions for exclusive shows and dinners}

The Big Apple saw digital shows in 2020 and partial physical shows earlier this year, but even with the new Delta variant, this big fashion city is proving that the show should take place on September 8-12. Everything about New York week will be based on all things American. The official fashion week will be conducted in partnership with IMG Models and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), as they lead the calendar of American-themed collections.

With a diverse lineup ninety one designer including Prabal Gurung, Gabriela Hearst, Sergio Hudson, and LaQuan Smith, it was important for CFDA and IMG to have a strong representation of American designer talent. Our fashion industry has come together as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, and a collaborative spirit is critical to the success of our creative talent. Teaming up with IMG has allowed us to present a single Official New York Fashion Week Schedule of shows and presentations in the American Collection Calendar, said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, in a note from the association.

There are many who think that NYFW is not as influential as it used to be compared to its top fashion city counterparts in London, Milan, and Paris, as its fashion week has been reduced. However, CFDA chairman Tom Ford has managed it this way, deliberately shortening the NY week to five days to cover all American designers who appear outside of the official NYFW dates. According to the CFDA, Ford’s mandate is the next step to positioning and strengthening NYFW in the future and attracting global media and retail.

Highlights will include Thom Browne, and Carolina Herrera and Rachel Comey will show the birthday collection. And the international design houses of Moschino by Jeremy Scott and Peter Dundas of Dundas will also be featured.

NYFW takes place in accordance with the New York State Health Guidelines, as the CFDA guides designers on best practices during this escalating pandemic.

Met Gala

Usually held on the first Monday in May, the Met Gala, which is a major fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museums Costume Institute, will be held on September 13.^th and themed In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. With individual tickets costing $30,000 and a table costing $275,000, it is expected that JLo, Lupita Nyongo, and Rihanna will be in attendance as guests. This year’s hosts are Naomi Osaka, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Timothe Chalamet, with Anna Wintour and Tom Ford as honorary chairs.

With the menu changes, ten chefs selected by Anna Wintour will cook for the prestigious evening, and the entire menu will be plant-based. The Daily Beast reports from a Met Gala spokesperson that, currently, all participants on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and are also expected to wear a mask indoors except when eating or drinking. We will update these guidelines as needed.

With a smaller guest list, it will be interesting to see which celebrities will actually attend, and which fashion designs will occupy the red carpet.
