A 20-year-old cousin was hospitalized for a non-life-threatening injury.

The misguided driver, identified as Manaure Gonzalez-Rea, 36, has been charged with DUI, DUI auto homicide criminal negligence, reckless driving and failing to remain in an accident involving death and theft, USA Today reported.

Reports said Gonzalez-Rea was driving a Toyota pickup south on the north lane and hit a Dhondups vehicle, killing him. When others stopped to help, Gonzalez-Rea reportedly stole people’s trucks and left. He was quickly caught by law enforcement.

Skill tell KSL.com that Dhondup managed to call his sister after the accident.

She called him and told him he had an accident and he was badly injured and he couldn’t breathe, Craft said. Dhondup died shortly after the call, KSL.com reported.

They have to say I do, but they can’t live for anything else, Craft told Deseret News. They had a whole life planned together and (Gonzalez-Rea) just cut it short.
