A millionaire who used to own the Joop! and fashion brand Cinque is believed to have sunk in the North Sea after falling off a cruise ship near the Dutch island of Texel.
The search operation began after a man believed to be Kai Wnsche, 81, reportedly fell into the sea on Monday afternoon. He had traveled from Hamburg, where he lives, to Antwerp in Belgium on the luxury ship MS Europa. After Wnsches’ husband reported her missing, the 200-metre boat turned around and began a search followed by the Dutch coast guard with a helicopter, a plane and five boats.
The choppy sea with waves as high as five meters made conditions difficult, and the search was halted at 6pm on Monday.
