TUCSON, Arizona A student-run non-profit organization helping those at the University of Arizona who need professional or business attire.
Blouses, shirts, pants, blazers, ties. Honestly, if you mention it, we probably got it, says Campus Closet executive director Hannah Stewart.
Campus Wardrobe is a student-run resource that collects and then distributes new or used business attire to those affiliated with the University – free of charge.
If you start on a low income you can’t afford professional attire, then you go to a job interview and you don’t present yourself to impress the interviewer, because, you know, we all have this implicit bias. Then they don’t get a job and maybe they don’t have a job when they need it, and they can’t afford new clothes. So it’s part of this cycle that it’s trying to break, says Stewart.
From upcoming job interviews to internships and other professional events, Stewart says Campus Wardrobe visitors can then proceed with confidence that they are dressed for the right occasion.
Here’s how it works; when you log in, show me your CatCard, and you will be awarded points for walking around and collecting items.
Everyone automatically gets four points. Basically different types of clothes are worth different amounts of points. Our pants and shirts are worth one point, our professional dresses and blazers are worth two points each, says Stewart, in the end, allowing everyone to make the whole outfit if necessary.
Campus Closet can serve about 30 people per distribution, but wants to serve more and increase the number of distribution days. Still trying to convey that it is here to help the university community.
“We’ve never really been open in the non-COVID semester, so definitely as we move into more people and into a more traditional semester that’s obviously going to change a lot,” Stewart said.
Campus Closet is looking for more donations. The most in need of business attire in womens plus size and mens small and medium size.
