Mercedes Teams Up With Fashion Designers To Make Outfits From Old Airbags

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the airbag and the 40th anniversary of its introduction into Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the automaker has collaborated with haute couture designer Heron Preston on a new line of clothing made from upcycled airbags.

As well as being made from recycled airbag materials, the conceptual look also expands and deflates to really incorporate the functionality of the materials into the design.

Preston, known for his high fashion style for work wear, has engineered the material into three forward-thinking men’s and women’s apparel designs inspired by airbags and their materials.

Heron Preston was chosen by Mercedes not only for its avant-garde design, but also for its commitment to incorporating less environmentally harmful practices into its business since 2016. Today, the brand is one of the few streetwear brands that prioritizes sustainability.

The design concept, Mercedes said, will be transformed into exclusive merchandise designed by Heron Preston and will be available through giveaways on global platforms. GOAT as of September 10.
