ATLANTA — It ended in just seconds.
A once popular and busy hotel on Sullivan Road near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport collapsed Sunday morning in hail.

The 14-story tower of the old Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center has been part of the property around the airport for years, but hasn’t been opened or used since 2017.
It has been the location of many film and television shoots, but the production company must now find another location.
Hartsfield-Jackson officials purchased the property and several surrounding properties outside the fence around the airport for what many believe could be the sixth runway at the world’s busiest airport.

It took 1,300 pounds of dynamite with 700 holes drilled along with about 10,000 feet of detonation cable to bring down the tower at the push of a button.
The conference building and surrounding parking deck will be demolished in a more conventional manner over the next few months and the short term plan is for the property to be covered with dirt and grass.
