LaQuan Smith has a fashion party at the Empire State Building

NEW YORK Where are the party girls at? On Thursday night, several people were aboard the Empire State Building walking down LaQuan Smith’s New York Fashion Week runway in blue and white sequin minis, barely one-pieces and glossy body-hugging pants.

In his first show now, buy now, the designer hosted around 200 guests on the landmark’s famous Observation Deck with sweeping views of the city as the wind tried to shake off one of his models’ large black hats.

The building is a true representation of the New York City dream, Smith told The Associated Press before his evening show. I as a New York native, I have vivid memories of coming here as a child. This is a full circle moment.

And he really meant it, sending his models across the deck to an explicit soundtrack shouting it’s time to party.

I’m so excited to reinforce what it means to be sexy without regrets. “I’m ready to start asking people out again,” said Smith.

Kylie Jenner is out there. She appeared in her first public appearance since revealing her pregnancy with baby No. 2 in a Smith catsuit showing her bulging belly under lace from neck to ankle.

On the runway, her models included a prominent Winnie Harlow dressed in loose-fitting clothes. The two walk in bright white with a matching large poodle. Others carried mini champagne bottles. One of the rather cool looking models flaunts a different blue bikini. Smith allowed him the white robe to open.

Before reaching the top, the designer threw a cocktail party in the landmark lobby.

At 33, Smith has built his sultry luxury brand after its launch in 2013, attracting several major celebrity fans including Beyonc, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Hailey Bieber (accompanied by her husband Justin) wore a Smith wool halter dress while meeting French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, in June.

Her heart remains in New York City, where fashion is everywhere and everything.

It’s on the subway, on the streets, in the bars, in the nightlife, says Smith. New York itself is a fashion moment. This is a fashion film, from the upper class to the lower class.

For this collection, fashion comes in electric blue, sequined white, and fishnet stockings worn with a petite top and a petite top. The neckline is falling. Cutaways are strategically placed on the hips and belly, and the furry jacket blows in the breeze.

Smith brings an edgy black-and-white print into the look group that includes a below-the-knee slit skirt with a matching bra top. She wore a hood over a slinky sequined long-sleeved mini revealing a matching bra. The other models looked ready for bed, or at least ready for bed. One of them wore a lacy undergarment look in a soft blue.

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Smith shared that his mother had worked for an insurance company at the World Trade Center. She was on maternity leave after her younger brother was born when the tower collapsed.

It was just a crushing time, he said. But I think we must continue to find reasons to celebrate and honor the people we have lost.
