Jurnee Smollett’s dress was just a miniature before

The previous Jurnee Smollett Emmy Awards gown was only available in mini form.

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ actress – who was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series award but lost to ‘The Crown’ star Olivia Colman – walked the red carpet on Sunday (19.09.21) wearing a strapless gown from Dior Haute Couture, previously spotted in the Fall 2020 short film by designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, which was shown in lieu of a catwalk show due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jurnee stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn told The Hollywood Reporter: What’s really cool about this Dior collection is that it’s never had a runway or red carpet moment coming out at the height of the pandemic.

“Since the entire collection is made in miniature, only a few of the dresses are made in human size, which makes it even more special as this design can also have its red carpet moments.

It was important for the 34-year-old star to wear haute couture to the event as part of her and her stylist’s long-term fashion “strategy”.

Alexandra said: “We started talking as soon as she was nominated not only for Jurnee and myself, but also with the rest of her team.

“It’s all a bit of a strategy, and we wanted to think about the big picture of where we wanted to take her fashion career and who she is in the fashion world today. With all that in mind, it must be haute couture.

The stylist has worked with Jurnee for a year and she enjoys changing her client’s style in the last 12 months.

She said: Previously Jurnee had worn a lot of signature feminine outfits, but we had fun exploring the different sides of her personality.

“We’ve done more suits, but still make them sexy and edgy, and there’s also this Angelina Jolie element of the 1990s, a bit of Tomb Raider influence and women kicking ass on screen. Jurnee does that both on-screen and off-screen, so we wanted to represent her more in her style.

And the Dior gown gave Jurnee another fresh look.

Her stylist said: “It’s softer than some of the looks we’ve done for Jurnee before. I like to provide client reach; it can get one small note if they are always in the same view type. This dress is so beautiful, amazing silk gauze in a very cool texture that almost looks like muslin.

“It gives off a bit of a princess vibe, but there’s also a fringe that adds a bit of edge and texture. I also love that it emphasizes Jurnees’ small waist and her shoulders and clavicles, while the color really shows up against her skin tone. It complimented him in every way.
