Late Goal Pushes UNH Over Union

DURHAM, NH Union College men’s hockey team dropped heartbreak to the University of New Hampshire, 3-2, Saturday night at Whittemore Center.

In the loss, Union fell to 3-7 all-time against the Wildcats.

Union opened the scoring in a similar fashion to Friday night’s game. second year student Tyler Wattins tipping potential outlets for the first year Michael Hodge. Hodge then directs the puck through the traffic to the sophomores Liam Robertson on the verge, and he beat UNH goalkeeper Mike Robinson 2:01 going into the first half.

The Wildcats scored the equalizer in power play with 1.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter, as the home team won cleanly for a one-timer in the waning seconds.

Tied respectively into the third period, junior assistant captain Dylan Anhorn went coast-to-coast to give Union a 2-1 lead at 3:09 of the third period. But the Wildcats found the back of the net 8:40 later, tying the game in half.

In what looked like a match headed into extra time, UNH found the back of the net with 56 seconds remaining in the third period to take the win.

Young Connor Murphy had 30 saves in the loss and 67 in total at the weekend.

The Dutch team turn their attention to their opener at home on Friday, October 16 against Colorado College. Puck drop is scheduled for 19:00 at Messa Rink.
