Wardrobe rental services have recently experienced a serious boom. When I first reviewed the various pre-pandemic options in 2020, many were still in their infancy. Now, it’s a fast-growing industry with new companies popping up left, right, and center. Even major retailers are catching up with the shift to more conscious consumption, with the likes of Selfridges launching in-store rental services.
My work very naturally means my overconsumption is becoming more evident every day. But on a personal level, it’s safe to say that I’m a huge fan of online shopping. Just like the next person, I’m guilty of wanting to buy new clothes as each season rolls around, and ordering new clothes for special occasions or big events.
But that’s where fashion rental comes in. The USP is that you can wear items from one of your favorite designer brands but at a fraction of the cost, offering a great option if you have an upcoming event (talking about Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties) or want to inject a little something new into your wardrobe. your clothes.
If you are looking for something new to try, let us introduce it to you loan destination for all things independent fashion. As a subscription-based service, you pay a monthly fee based on the number of items you want to rent that month (69 per month for two items, 99 per month for four items).
And while renting a glamorous outfit can be a great option for an occasion, destination loan is to allow you to fit the things you rent into your own wardrobe. This means you get the same online shopping buzz from receiving something new through your door, without buying into the fast-fashion business model of over-consumption.
In an attempt to see if using loan can really curb my love for all things shopping, I just have to give it a whirl.
How we test
To give you the best possible review, I rented two items and considered how easy they would be to fit into my wardrobe. I also judged how easy the platform was to use, the size options available, the price, and the variety of brands on offer. Read on to see how I proceed.
(lent)
- Membership fee: 69 per month for two items, 99 per month for four items
- Brand: AlexaChung, Kitri, Shrimp, Joseph, Lily & Lionel and more
How does it work?
As a subscription-based service, you have to choose whether you prefer to rent two items per month for 69, or four for 99. Once you have registered an account, you can choose the items you want to rent.
Navigation website It’s very easy and the filter option is a definite bonus as you can make sure the item you click on is available in your size (there were a few occasions when I forgot to filter and found something I liked, only to find it wasn’t available).
The process was as seamless as ever, and my item arrived within 48 hours in reusable RePack packaging. I did run into a bit of trouble in the process as they didn’t have the size of the item I ordered, but the helpful team quickly fixed it and gave me a free item as compensation.
What I ordered
I was surprised how difficult it was for me to choose what I wanted to rent. I considered really going out, but I decided that I wanted the clothes I wore the most. Maybe if I used the service more regularly, I wouldn’t be playing it safe.
So I apply the same mentality to renting as I do to buying: it has to be versatile and fit into everything I already own.
While I really like Kitri Blanca utility jumpsuit, NS Joseph tweed knit pants and Regina Pyo Cleo linen linen dress, in the end, I chose a McCoy fuchsia shrimp embroidered cardigan and AlexaChung Albertine shirt dress. Both arrive beautifully wrapped, creating an upscale feel.
I love that both pieces arrive individually wrapped

NS cardigan bright, bold and brilliant as I had hoped and it turned out to be so easy to fit into my fall wardrobe. I paired them with black jeans and a large collar one day, white jeans the next, and used them to liven up a black slip dress for dinner out.

I also chose to wear it with a gray jog on Sunday and found it to be the ideal piece to add a little extra glam to a day of off-duty styling who would have thought.
NS gown I picked the ideal one for fall and I knew I would get a lot of wear and tear from it. While it doesn’t allow for different clothing choices, I style them differently for different occasions. On a sunny day, I opted to pair it with ankle boots and a large puffer jacket.

If the item I selected was not for me or arrived damaged, I could easily exchange it. Onloan asks you to change anything within the first few days of ownership, so they can be put back on the website for others to enjoy. To return an item, you just need to create a label and take it to the Collect+ shop, it couldn’t be easier.
Also note here that if you are pregnant, loan has an entire section dedicated to maternity wear, from the first trimester to the post-feeding days of your baby. I think this is very commendable because it saves you from having to build a whole new wardrobe when you have bread in the oven.
Verdict: Loan
NS loan the service is super easy to use and provides a great way to curb the love for online shopping You can have new pieces arriving at your door in less than 48 hours, as you can with the likes of Asos, but with loan You are not contributing to fashion sustainability issues.
I also like the fact that it caters to those who are pregnant, meaning if you need maternity clothes but don’t want to buy a new wardrobe to accommodate your growing bump, you can rent one.
Of course, the cost (69 or 99 per month) is worth keeping in mind as it is, rental companies are geared towards those with higher spendable incomes and an Onloan subscription won’t fit everyone’s budget.
But overall, we think Onloan does offer a great option if you’re looking for a more sustainable alternative to online shopping, and you’re still feeling something new is arriving at your door. Are you a fan of kitri or shrimp, there is something to be found here.
