Balenciaga, Loewe, Chanel and More Fashion Season Moments

After a month of spring 2022 fashion shows in New York City, London, Milan, and Paris, many becoming IRL for the first time since the pandemic, things can start to feel a bit blurry. However, there are a few moments that stand out and get us excited for spring. Right this way

Hands down, my favorite experience of the season, in many seasons. I love that guests, myself included, don’t know until they enter the theater that they are actually part of the red carpet parade, which is broadcast live on the giant screen inside. Indeed, it is difficult to tell who is a guest and who is a celebrity. But I guess that was Demna Gvasalia’s plan. The production is done very easily, with light comics, and then we watch Marge and Homer Simpson, and the whole of Springfield, standing on the Balenciaga runway in a film that shows again how stunning fashion makes people. There’s plenty of sexy outfits on the runway this season: low-rise miniskirts at Miu Miu, slim bodysuits at Saint Laurent, Madonna-style conical bras at Schiaparelli. fetish too. Dries Van Noten and JW Anderson both sported a sleek, slick heel. Balenciaga’s knee-high leather boots make me want to run to the store and try them on, just so I can feel the ASMR of the zipper. The shoe that caught everyone’s attention, however, was the surreal shoe at Loewe. At first glance, I could hardly believe my eyes. Can you really walk on a birthday candle and a broken egg? Wouldn’t you slip on the soap?? The entire collection is a bit of a joke, or oddly satisfying, to steal phrases from Instagram’s Explore page. Whether you think of it as a gimmick or not, it’s hard not to want to collect these shoes purely as objects to admire. Emilia Petrarch

Fashion has a bad habit of anointing the flavors of the month, which often ends up being a flash in the pot when collective attention turns to the next hot young thing. So it was great to see Victor Glemaud, a veteran designer with a lot of life in fashion, stage his first full runway show during New York Fashion Week. And cheerful is really the word. When many designers became gloomy or serious about the sophistication of the telegraph, Glemaud insisted on excitement. The knitting is fun, sexy, bright, and buoyant. The disco soundtrack doesn’t hurt either. Matthew Schneier

It was a big season for Raf, with rave reviews in Milan for his collection and Miuccia Pradas for Prada and then subtle but powerful shows in Paris for his own Antwerp-based label. She is one of the few designers to try to reinterpret a suit (in her case, with a skirt). She’s done other things in this mostly unisex collection, but her suit is news, with a rather casual fit for a knee-length pleated jacket and skirt. However, the straight runway image doesn’t look fair. You have to see it on the profile to know that the silhouette is fresh and cool. Cathy Horyn

I was watching a Chanel show waiting for Swiss model Vivienne Rohner to show up so I could see her hair. It’s all about the flip for me she has a small section of hair on the left side of her face that flips out (as opposed to the rest of the hair, which flips), and it bounces as she walks down the runway. It feels like Flip has a story to tell. What’s that? Why does it exist? Where does it come from? And I want it in my own hair. Kathleen Hou

Emerging from the other side of the pandemic, both in life and in fashion, there’s no doubt that feelings are different, reflective, in more ways than one. A year spent at home means looking deep into our past. How deep? For Andreas Kronthaler, it was a revisit of some of his childhood treasures, including this toy Socrates doll and his own baby blanket that wrapped it. Sitting on the head of supermodel Lindsey Wixson, we’re intrigued by this very surreal look of childhood nostalgia. Vivian Chuang

A show after a designer dies always feels like a celebration of life and a little sad, but the Alber Elbazs AZ Factory, inviting 45 homes and designers to participate in its show, is an interesting way to recognize how Alber inspired the industry. I really like Christopher John Rogerss rainbow silk dress adorned with a yellow train. The bold colors on the silk canvas feel like pure bliss. It’s an award done right. Asian Milia Items

Is wearing a coat to the back chic? Celine Dion asked the question in 1999, on the Oscar red carpet, when she use Galliano’s white tuxedo jacket rewinds to a very polarizing moment back then (but might be celebrating virally now). Recently, Cut argued that the best way to wear a cardigan was upside down, which lots of debate. Style choices can actually look good, and I would argue that it shows that you’re an adventurous person and don’t take yourself too seriously. Plus, it practically doubles your wardrobe, because there’s a new way to wear them all. Jonathan Anderson revived the debate and settled the score. Wearing a coat back is indeed very chic. At least when you’re wearing Loewe. Andrew Nguyen

Bianca Saunderss’ spring collection is a collection of menswear that I would love to wear and give to my girlfriend, if I have one. The collection is described as a summer style that was not realized before digital photography in the collection notes. The note also includes a quote from Saunders about browsing through old photos of his family and being inspired by the mix of casual and tailored styles. Whenever I look at my dad’s Polaroid from the ’80s, the mode seems so effortless. From the stitching, colors, and matching sets, every look is like a uniform or dress code that’s easy to follow. A dark denim jacket and flared jeans set is my favorite look. Denim on denim is spicy and it has definitely inspired me to bring that combo back into my fall wardrobe. Goddess Blacksher
