Los Angeles is the city of many fashion weeks, and now others are joining the action.
After launching in Tel Aviv in March 2020, Kornit Fashion Week will hit downtown LA from Tuesday to Friday with 22 shows, including Ungaro, ThreeAsFour, Asher Levine, Oliver Tolentino, Julia Clancey, and more.
An invitation-only show at the Pacific Stock Exchange building focused on inclusiveness and sustainability; in addition to their collections, each designer will feature original works created with Kornit’s digital printing technology.
Founded in 2002, Kornit Digital is a publicly traded Israeli-American manufacturing company that manufactures and markets industrial and commercial printers for the apparel and textile industries that minimize the use of water and toxic materials in dyes.
“LA may not be the capital, but it is a major hub for the genuine fashion industry,” said Omer Kulka, head of marketing for Kornit Digital. “We wanted to create an alternative that would showcase additional aspects and forms of fashion. We are leading a real transformation at the heart of the fashion industry, redefining how it comes alive and is made. This is why choosing a place that is the center of the original fashion industry, like LA, was the obvious choice for us.
“On the social aspect we see LA as a melting pot of communities, people, opinions, and ways of life that support our message of inclusion that will appear in every show we have during the week,” he said, noting that casting would be the measure. , gender and age inclusive.
“After Kornit Tel Aviv, I got hundreds of SMS and emails thanking us for pointing it out. Success is showing beauty in all its forms,” said Kornit Fashion Week producer Motty Reif, a 36-year fashion industry veteran who intends to take the concept to London, Paris, New York, Milan, Abu Dhabi and Berlin.
in LA, Ripe chooses a designer based on his connections, and the people he meets on Instagram. “Most of them are based in LA, some are in New York, and Ungaro from Paris is doing the first ready-to-wear show in LA,” he said.
Tuesday morning, Kobi Halperin, who was Elie Tahari’s creative director for 15 years, will present his namesake line. Thursday night, he will present his collection to Ungaro, who is now a contemporary label. This will be the encore of spring 2022, first shown in Paris, along with some new work destined for the red carpet.
On Wednesday night, Clancey, known for his brand of Old Hollywood-meets-Studio 54 kaftans and turbans, will showcase the print-based collection with Pat Cleveland walking the runway.
Early Friday morning, LA-based tech fashion specialist Levine, winner of the 2018 FGI New Star Award who has dressed Lady Gaga, Lil Nas X and Nicki Minaj, among others, showed off a collection called “Time and Light” that showcases her signature aesthetic illumination, and a sling bag made of “exotic future leather”. “I believe in fast iteration which leads to faster innovation, and by using their engine, you can innovate quickly,” the designer said of using Kornit technology.

While most of the machines the designers use are already on the commercial market, at the event, Kornit will unveil technology that allows 3D printing on fabric rolls to create decorative effects.
The city was the obvious choice for Kornit’s message because of its progressive attitude towards the environment, Kulka explains. “This is one of the most advanced places in terms of the most stringent regulations and restrictions. So when we show how fashion can be produced here locally, including textile finishing and printing, which when done by conventional methods is currently a major contributor to the fact that the textile industry is responsible for more than 20 percent of water pollution globally, this is the strongest way. we can convey our message that we truly have the most advanced technology to enable true sustainable fashion manufacturing,” he said.
“The innovative models we display live are a real alternative to the way fashion is produced today: When collections are made locally in weeks instead of months and can be offered to consumers as soon as they are displayed, sticking to basic principles. the demand-driven concept that only what is desired will actually be produced — no unsold inventory, no unnecessary price drops, and never out of bestseller. It’s a truly sustainable way to make fashion,” said Kulka.
