Diving Insights:
In addition to expanding its own range of custom clothing, Knot Standard is now selling its technology to retailers to create their own custom clothing offerings.
With this collaboration, Brooks Brothers, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s now stand alongside other retailers in enhancing their specialty apparel offerings with technology. In December 2020, Amazon getting started with the “Made for You” feature via the Amazon app, allowing users to create custom T-shirts using virtual fitting technology. In July, Customized Brand Integrated Contactless Fit tool from Bold Metrics become more than 650 Men clothes warehouse and Jose’s shop. A. Banks.
Nordstrom’s use of Knot Standard technology also comes after the June announcement that it plans to open 21 Indochino traditional clothing stores in stores across the country.
“The Custom OnDemand Knot Standard platform is a retail first – never before has custom clothing made possible for anyone, anywhere, without any special training, inventory or infrastructure,” said Knot Standard President and co-founder Matthew Mueller in a statement. “The Virtual Styling tools we’ve been building for the last 10 years, combined with our successful AI-powered Fit App and digital Style Wall, allow any retailer to offer Knot Standard custom clothing with minimal training and zero inventory.”
This is a model similar to what ThredUp is pursuing with resale as a service platform, helping retailers set up their own resale programs. Wells Fargo analysts recently said that the business side could be more profitable than its core used clothing sales.
Knot Standard also evolves in other ways. According to a Knot Standard press release, the company recently added women’s clothing to its range of products. This offering includes business, leisure and event wear and was launched earlier last week, Women’s Clothing Daily Report.
