Original fashion designer Darlene Perkins, Bismarck, originally from Parshall, and her business, Red Lightning Couture, hold an event to raise awareness of climate change, eliminating and killing indigenous peoples and schoolchildren at the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, California, on November 27 .
According to Perkins, “Honoring the Sacred Circle,” will “a night of indigenous solidarity and resilience through wisdom, music and fashion.”
Last September Perkins and Red Lightning Couture, partnered with Leander McDonald, president of United Tribes Technical College, and UTTC in Bismarck, presented a similar “Honoring the Sacred Circle” in UTTC.
The November 27 event at the West Hollywood theater will have a number of special guests, musical performances and a fashion show by Red Lightning Couture. John Trudell, the late Native American writer, poet, actor, musician, and political activist, will be honored.
Perkins, an Arikara/Hidatsa/Lakota and ordained United Church of Christ pastor, says because of everything that’s going on, raising awareness about specific topics has become one of his passions.
