Sarah Michelle Gellar is famous for kicking all kinds of spooky monsters, from Gnarl to Gentlemen to The Infinite Evil. While he hasn’t taken vampire hunter coat since the last season of the ensemble-driven drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in 2003, his killing days were far from over: he just starred in a new fashion campaign, and he totally killed the ’80s aesthetic.
Sarah Michelle Gellar recently starred in the 2021 holiday campaign for Wear it for the Heart, an active clothing brand that makes its psychedelic prints and bold patterns of bread and butter. You can check out the totally retro photos on Sarah’s Insta below:
Photo features Everyone’s favorite vampire hunter rocked some of the 80’s most iconic fitness activewear trends, including white tube socks, oversized scrunchies, gummy bracelets, and even a pastel Walkman. If he was going to kill the vampires in this outfit, they would likely come from Missing children or Near Dark.
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as jazzercise fantasy full Jane Fonda in the Wear It To Heart tie-dye leggings and color-coordinated sweatband. We expect nothing less from the ever-fashionable Buffy Summers, even if Slayer’s wardrobe consists of more leather jackets, miniskirts, and small camisole than colorful yoga pants (If you want more of Buffy’s ’90s style, check out @buffytheoutfitslayer on Insta, because it’s worth every view).
Sarah Michelle Gellar initially rose to fame playing Kendall Hart in the popular soap opera All My Children alongside genre mainstay and timeless Emmy nominee Susan Lucci, and her performance even earned her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Young Actress in a Drama Series in 1995. That said, she came of age in the 1980s and no doubt has great memories of fashion in time.
Of course, Gellar’s biggest breakthrough comes in the form of Buffy Summers at Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He plays High school cheerleader turned monster hunter for all 144 episodes of the seminal sci-fi series and help usher in a new era of stereotypical badass heroines. And he looks great doing it too, so we can probably expect to see him repeat some of Buffy’s best lewks for promotion in 2031.
When she’s not modeling ’80s eleganza or posting adorable photos on social media with husband Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar continues to live her retro dreams. as Teela’s voice on Netflix Ruler of the Universe: Revelation. This project is an animated sequel to the 1983 series He-Man and the Lord of the Universe. The cast also includes Chris Wood from Supergirl as He-Man and Star Wars alum/voice Mark Hamill as Skeletor. If anyone knows anything about ’80s fashion on a planet other than Earth, it’s Hamill.
All seven seasons Buffy the Vampire Slayer available to stream now on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. Ruler of the Universe: Revelation available for streaming in its entirety on Netflix.
