Whether you believe in luck or you just want to update your wardrobe for the new year, the Onitsuka Tiger collection by Yasushi Nirasawa is just what you need.
To celebrate the Year of the Tiger, Onitsuka Tiger has launched a special collection created in collaboration with the late Japanese illustrator and manga artist. Best known for his works on Kamen Rider series, Nirasawa contributed character designs inspired by the blue and red stripes found on the iconic Mexico 66 sneakers. The Nirasawa-style creature, nicknamed “Onitsuka Tiger Man”, is now featured on a T-shirt (S$129) and sweater (S$229) in black and white. The outfit is also stamped with the artist’s signature.
Onitsuka Tiger has also commissioned Japanese sculptor Takayuki Takeya to create a 3D model of the creature, which will be displayed at the brand’s flagship store in Omotesando and other locations.
This collection is the first to be launched as part of the brand Year of the Onitsuka Tiger project. For the collaborative series, various artists will be invited to offer their creativity about the tiger, which is the symbol of the Chinese zodiac in 2022. The animal is known to represent ferocity and courage; The wearer of the motif also believes that it will bring them good luck.
