Kenzo Collection NIGO Debut Fall/Winter 2022

NIGO has finally launched its debut collection for Kenzo after being appointed artistic director of the brand in September 2021.

As part of the Paris Fashion Week Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 season, the designer’s latest line for men and women introduces his vision for the label, which is “a junction between his maison heritage and his own contemporary code,” according to a press release. The show took place at the Galerie Vivienne — where Kenzo Takada presented his first fashion show in 1970 — featuring an exclusive preview of the upcoming album NIGO. I Know Nigo with performances from A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Teriyaki Boyz, Tyler, The Creator and Lil Uzi Vert.

The pieces in the line combine the artistic director’s own education and career with Takada’s heritage, transcending cultural and conventional dress codes. Outfits that stand out include a souvenir bomber jacket dedicated to those “historically commissioned in kimono fabric by the American occupying forces in Japan.” The wool side is embroidered with a map of France, while the silk side is embroidered with a map of Japan. The nylon flight jacket is lined with shearling material and the graduation jacket is wrapped in Takada’s original sketch print.

Meanwhile, designs inspired by Japanese pottery workwear come in the form of Japanese Samues, a bib-like top that accentuates the silhouette of a kimono, which is lined with a traditional Hanten. Denim also dominates this collection as seen in pants, jackets and salopettes with yellow topstitching. Elsewhere, chunky sweaters are adorned with NIGO university patches, Poppy Print and Boke Flower prints.
