Cairo As part of its ATX-Egypt fashion design exchange program, the US Embassy in Cairo hosted ten fashion designers and experts from Austin, Texas June 1 to 8, who met with Egyptian counterparts and learned more about Egypts fashion and apparel industries.

At a networking reception for program alumni and leading figures in Egyptian fashion, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Patrick Hanish underscored the importance of the program, saying In the last 40 years, the US government has invested $30 billion (over 555 billion Egyptian pounds) in Egypt’s economic development. This includes connecting entrepreneurs to mentors and professional networks, and providing them with training, education, and access to capital. The ATX-Egypt program advances these initiatives by fostering and strengthening cultural ties, connections, innovation, and economic development between Texas and Egypt.

The ATX-Egypt program previously included a virtual, 16-week business course for Egyptian fashion entrepreneurs through the Austin Community College Fashion Incubator. Following this, ten Egyptian fashion designers visited Austin in December 2021, participating in Austin Fashion Week and showingcasing their products at a pop-up store sponsored by American fashion retailer, Macys.

Initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and the creative economy are just one way the United States builds cultural connections with Egyptians. Learn more at the Embassys website, eg.usembassy.gov.
