Gun found after late-night shooting that left two men inured

Cambridge police have found a gun that might have been used in a late-night shooting Friday that left two men injured at Hoyt Field.

In a tweet on Saturday, the Cambridge Police Department said they had found a gun and additional evidence but did not specify what more they had found, where they had discovered the gun or whether it was the same type used in the shooting.

Two Cambridge men, ages 18 and 19, were injured in the incident, which occurred shortly after 10:30 pm Friday at 12 Gilmore St.

Police first reported one of the victims having suffered “serious injuries” before elevating his status to stable in an 8:26 am Saturday tweet.

After the shooting, a witness reported seeing a short male in a hooded sweatshirt and all-black clothing running on Montague Street in the direction of River Street.

There were 1,468 serious crimes reported in Cambridge from the beginning of the year through Aug. 1, according to the latest edition of BridgeStat, the police department’s monthly crime bulletin.

Those crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft and are up slightly from the same time last year, which reported 18 fewer instances.
