An old beach towel or a forgotten quilt may not be the kind of material that comes to mind when you picture fashion.
But Guelph’s Circular Fashion festival hopes to change the way we think about clothes.
The week long festival will celebrate Waste Reduction Week with in-person and virtual events.
On Tuesday, upcycled creations will walk the runway at the festival’s fashion show that will be held at the 10C Shared Space in Guelph.
The show features creative fashions from local designers like Guelph’sShelly Thompson. The festival is on nowuntil October 23rd.

For Thompson using unconventional textiles to create new fashions is her way of reducing waste and repurposing old materials.
After working in the recycled clothing industry for more than a decade, Thompson was familiar with the process and started making her own upcycled clothes.
In 2020, Thompson opened her own store to display her creative fashions.

Thompson spoke with Fresh Air host Jason D’Souza about the inspirations behind her designs.
