Best High-Waisted Jeans

[ad_1]

Its easy to associate denim trends with different eras (see: 70s bell-bottoms, 80s acid wash, the early aughts low-rise). Right now, were in the throws of a high-waisted craze, with styles that hit well above the hip appealing to a wide swath of the denim-wearing population. Its not really a trend, though, since the look has been around for decades. Some of the first Levis made for women in the 1940s had sky-high waists, which made the jeans practical and easy to tuck a shirt into when working in a factory.

The style stuck around for its flattering shape. High waisted jeans are actually fashions gift since theyre typically fitted at the waist and hips but have a gentle flare, so they flatter all body types, says Abby Arad, stylist and founder of Your Stylist Says. To find your perfect pair (or pairs), we consulted Arad and deeply researched the market on the best high-waisted jeans to consider for your denim wardrobe.

Best Of The Rest

Good American: Made For Curves And Plus Sizes

Good American insists that retailers carry their full size range, which is almost unheard of in the retail world. They never want their bigger customers to feel left out of trends, or that certain jeans aren’t for them, says Arad. Plus, many of their styles are shown on a range of body types, which gives a realistic sense of what theyll look like on you.

Alice And Olivia: Flared Shape Thats Flattering

Alice + Olivia founder Stacey Bendet started her brand with the mission to make the perfect pants, a goal many loyal fans feel she succeeded at. The brand has always been known for its famously high-waisted, wide-leg trousers, says Arad. This silhouette perfectly translates into their high-waisted denim now, too.

Mother: Cropped For A Chic Look

Denim aficionados go straight to Mother when they want a chic, cropped jean that never looks too short (like dated capris). Arad says their style is cut on a slight but imperceptible angle so it flatters the ankle and falls perfectly.

Agolde: Dark Denim Done Right

When it comes to black denim, Arad finds that nobody nails the deep shade like AGolde. They capture a perfectly faded hue that almost veers into a dark gray, so it will take you through fall and winter, she says. Pair this style with a cozy sweater and a chunky boot for an elevated day look.

Levis: Comfortable Skinny Style

Sometimes known by their cheeky name The Wedgie, the Levis skinny high-waisted jean has a cute seam on the backside that gives these pants their moniker, says Arad. Theyre classic and the price is right. Fans of the cut will also love their Wedgie Straight and Wedgie Ankle.

Frame: Relaxed Boyfriend Fit

Arad loves Frame for its popular slouchy shapes that makes any outfit look a bit cooler. This pair has a bit of a wide-leg style and a built-in skinny belt, taking the typically baggy-boyfriend look for a sophisticated spin, she says.

Lagence: Distressed Denim Thats Super Soft

Todays stretchy jean is a far cry from the skintight 80s version. LAgence is known for their stretchy denim, which is made with 35% cotton for comfort, and gives new life to the old term jeggings, says Arad. This forgiving fabric blend also works wonders with a high-waisted cut, for an ultra-flattering silhouette.

What To Look For With The Best High-Waisted Jeans:

  • Styles: Not all high-waisted jeans are created equal. In fact, if theyre cut too tight at the waist, they can be downright uncomfortable. When shopping for a pair, Arad has this advice: Go for the highest waist thats comfortable. For shorter frames, wearing a high-waisted style with a heel and having the hem fall further than your natural ankle line will really help elongate your legs as well.
  • Fabrics: While stretchy jeans can sound a bit dated, the truth is, you want a fabric that offers a bit of give for comfort. Arad says to look for at least one to two percent spandex in the fabric, especially if you sit at a desk all day or spend time driving, when your body is bent at the waist. Also, high-end brands spend more time perfecting the hand on their denimmeaning, the feel of the fabricso pricier jeans may be softer and all around more comfortable, she says.
  • Sizes: A high-waisted jean calls for taking your proper size. I tell my clients that its the job of the clothes to fit the person, not the other way around, says Arad. So dont contort yourself to fit into a jean size you think you should be wearing but doesnt feel right.

Which Style Of High-Waisted Jeans Is The Best?

If you are shopping online, buy a few different styles and brands to see what works on your body. Ask the opinion of a friend if youre elements about how the jeans look from all angles, if you want an objective point-of-view. Ultimately, though, Arad says that it comes down to you: If you like the jeans and they feel good, they’re the right pair.

How Much Should I Spent On High-Waisted Jeans?

I truly believe people should be wearing the jeans they find most comfortable and flattering on their body, says Arad. A pair is worth the money if it fits you well, and you know you’ll wear it time and again. That being said, I would put the cap on this style at $300, with most high-end brands coming in around $250, says Arad.
