KidSuper founder Colm Dillane, with only two Paris Fashion Week shows, is back next week with an incredible new show at Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury home.
The Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2023 menswear collection, which will be presented on January 19, was created by a men’s studio with Dillane’s participation. In other words, Colm was pinned into the men’s studio, the house said Tuesday. The show will also feature a screenplay by Lina Kutsovskaya and French directors Michel and Olivier Gondry, who directed the prelude to the show. And stay tuned for yet-to-be-disclosed appearances from world-famous music stars.
According to the house, this marks a continuation of the talent collective concept already seen in the last two seasons following the death of Virgil Abloh, the house’s male artistic director. Kutsovskaya is a longtime collaborator of Abloh, as is Ib Kamara, who will be behind the styling for the upcoming show.
So why did Louis Vuitton choose Dillane?
It appears that this season’s collaborative format, which via an embedded cameo role effectively made Dillane the first ever guest runway designer, had been planned to act as a stand-in. Since Abloh’s sudden death in November 2021, the house has carefully considered the sensitive question of who might replace him – a major question given Abloh’s generational influence and influence. Many names (including Dillanes) have been disputed. However, leaving the menswear display duties only temporarily to Dillane relieves that pressure while giving the company time to align and execute its future plans for creative strategy and possibly the appointment of a long-term successor to Abloh.
LVMH’s Louis Vuitton is the world’s largest luxury home: its sales have jumped 20 percent to 20.6 billion in 2022 and are expected to reach 21.9 billion in 2023, according to HSBC forecasts. Men’s clothing may not represent most businesses, but the role of the male artistic director is key given the size of homes, the importance of leather goods, which account for more than 70 percent of home sales according to analysts, and the halo effect. from the male designer’s creative vision of the brand’s overall desirability.
