‘Love Island’: Presents UK TV show to promote sustainable fashion in the latest series

Hit British reality TV show Love Island returns on January 16th — and pre-loved mode set to steal the show once again.

In 2022, the series ditched him fast mode image by partnering with eBay, previously associated with e-commerce clothing stores Missguided and I Saw it First.

The series was widely watched in the United Kingdom with an audience of millions and offered unparalleled brand exposure during its primetime slot.

Series 8 of ‘Love Island’ see first time preloved fashion partnerships on TV shows. Outfits from online thrift marketplace eBay are worn by contestants as they descend into exotic locations to find love.

Searches for used clothing jumped 1,600 percent eBay after the show aired.

New data from eBay reveals that demand is still strong, with 49 per cent of Brits planning to buy second hand by 2023. Those aged 18 to 34 are most open to buying second hand, with 74 per cent planning to do so compared to 31 per cent over 55- an.

For season 9, ‘Love Island’ has once again teamed up with eBay to drive conversation continuity and encouraging shoppers to be more environmentally conscious about their wardrobes.

Why is preloved mode getting more and more popular?

Clothing and footwear are responsible for water pollution, a greenhouse gas emission and TPA. With the advent of fast fashion, the amount of clothing produced and discarded has skyrocketed.

Shopping secondhand will save you money and environment. 50 percent of survey respondents said they shop used because it is cheaper, while 48 percent cited environmental reasons.

eBay estimates that each shopper buys one used item mode goods instead of buying new in a month the UK was able to divert 6,000 tonnes from disposal – the equivalent of over 260,000 filled suitcases.

In EUof the 5.8 million tons of textiles that consumers throw away each year, only a quarter recycle according to the European Commission. Friends of the Earth Europe reports that the remaining 4.3 million tonnes was dumped. That’s the equivalent of 60 garbage trucks filled with clothes being burned or buried in landfill every minute.

How do the preloved outfits feature in ‘Love Island’ Series 9?

The Islanders will be dressed by celebrity stylist Amy Bannerman, who has worked with celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Lena Dunham and Jonathan Van Ness

She will fill the shared wardrobe at the iconic ‘Love Island’ villa with second hand items from eBay, following four themes: Tutti Frutti, Business vs. Party, Dress Up Denim, and Heavy Metal.

The ecommerce platform also took the opportunity to promote original sneakers and the Imperfects range by including them in the show.

Some branded items sold above a certain threshold on the platform are checked for authenticity by industry experts in a build-up effort consumer trust.

The platform describes its Imperfection range as being on par with supermarkets’ ‘tilted vegetables‘ initiative. Offering brand-new, but with flaws, clothing, shoes and accessories from more than 100 high-end and high-end designers including North Face, Off White, Puma, Fila and Timberland for up to 60 percent off.

Defects may include minor scuffs or marks, missing buttons, loose threads or display items that cannot be sold at full price.
