Doja Cat has taken the fashion and social media world by storm after appearing at the Paris Fashion Week show in a look that took five hours to put together.
The “Get Into It” rapper attended the Maison Schiaparelli Haute Couture FW23 show in one of the fashion house’s high-end looks: a red gown consisting of a faille silk bustier, a hand-knitted skirt covered in lacquered wood beading, and matching knees. high boots, according to the official designer Instagram Account.
However, what caught the attention of fans was the makeup that Doja paired with the dress. To complete the look, dubbed “Inferno Doja”, her skin was covered in red dye from head to toe, which was smeared with 30,000 Swarovski crystals, reflecting the texture of the skirt on her upper body and face.
The avant-garde outfit was designed by Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Rosebury, while artist Pat McGrath conceptualized the makeup, which she revealed in an Instagram post, took four hours and 58 minutes to apply.
“What a pleasure to work with the lovely @DojaCat and the amazing @DanielRoseberry on the Dojas Inferno look for the @Schiaparellis FW23 Haute Couture collection,” McGrath wrote alongside a clip of his finished work.
“Doja’s incredible 4 hours and 58 minutes of patience it took to create the look with #TeamPatMcGrath, covered in over 30,000 hand-applied @swarovski Crystals, was truly inspiring,” he continued. “The final product is a magical and dazzling masterpiece of shimmering brilliance. xx”
In a later post, McGrath shares a behind-the-scenes look at the intense process that saw no less than five hairstylists at once working to, firstly, cover Doja Cat’s buzzed pink and blonde hair to create a bald surface; then start painting the skin before applying the crystals by hand.
“#patmcgrathlabs LOVES presenting a mix of front row with runway, a legendary look inspired by the great: @dojacat,” read BTS’s caption. “Covered in over 30,000 hand-applied @swarovski Crystals, DOJAS INFERNO celebrates the essence of haute couture with a shimmering, beautiful sheen.”
While not overly elaborate, Doja Cat’s New York Fashion Week outfit made headlines last fall, as documented byNYLON. a few weeks later, she appeared at Paris Fashion Week earlier in October with her face and neck covered in gold paint in the WAKE-UP Mode; and as a blue-and-white-faced alien for another show.
In November, Doja said she felt so beautiful with a shaved head and wanted her fans to know they didn’t have to try so hard to feel the same way.
As the cover star on that month’s issue dazedmagazine,Doja said in the accompanying interview that shaving her head and eyebrows was an idea that came naturally over the summer and that she originally did it for fun, though fans were divided over the new look.
I have never felt more beautiful in my entire life, which is very strange, she said. I feel beautiful when I have long hair. I really felt like a hot girl back then, but I always did. There is something very exhilarating about change; [it] show another side of me. I feel so new, fresh and sexy. I also feel better without make-up: going barehead and a little make-up is a great experience. It’s new, and I love it.
But she admits that it took her a while to get used to her new look at first.
