Irina Shayk defends her controversial lion head dress, Kylie Jenner faces criticism again for her noose-shaped necklace

Irina Shayk spoke out in support of the designers behind Schiaparelli’s controversial lion head gown following the backlash Kylie Jenner faced after rocking the look on Monday.

The 25-year-old reality star sparked a social media storm when she wore a black velvet strapless dress featuring a large embroidered lion’s head set in a neckline for Schiaparelli’s Spring 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week. Shayk, 37, modeled a nearly identical dress when she walked the runway during the show.

“I support these incredible artists who worked tirelessly, with their hands, using wool, silk and foam, to sculpt this embroidered Lion, and the image of Pride, an image that @schiaparelli called upon while exploring the theme of strength,” Russian-born the supermodel wrote in the caption of an Instagram post she shared on Tuesday.

“I am honored to have been called upon to lend my art as a woman to this,” she added with a black heart emoji, tagging Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry.

Shayk’s post features a slideshow of images in which she can be seen wearing the gown on the runway, with fixtures and backstage as well as images of the design and shots of Schiaparelli’s signature gold toe pumps.

According to the designer’s Instagram page, the animal head is made from “hand-sculpted foam, wool and silk faux fur, and hand-painted to look as real as possible, celebrating the glory of nature.”

The fashion house emphasized, “NO ANIMAL WAS RESPECTED IN CREATING THIS SHOW.”

The lion’s head gown was part of Schiaparelli’s “Inferno Couture” collection, which also included an ensemble showcasing lifelike replicas of snow leopards and wolves.

Naomi Campbell was photographed walking the runway in a fluffy black trench coat with a wolf’s head on his shoulder. Shalom Harlow wore a leopard print dress with a snow leopard’s head sewn into the bodice.

In another Instagram post, the fashion house wrote, “Leopards, lions and she-wolves represent lust, pride and greed in Dante’s iconic allegory in hand-sculpted foam, resin, wool and silk faux fur, hand painted to look like live as possible.”

Schiaparelli reiterated, “NO ANIMAL WAS HURT IN VIEWING THIS.”

However, some social media users condemned the design, claiming the animal’s head could promote trophy hunting.

One user wrote on Instagram, “The only thing that glorifies is the killing of these animals, even though this is fake. The lions, cheetahs and wolves looked like they were really meant to look as if they were killed and used for clothing.” How does this celebrate nature’s glory. Make sense of it.”

Another expressed their dismay, writing, “Sorry but not for me. Whether it’s fake or not, it promotes animal cruelty,” while an additional comment read: “Celebrate the glory of nature ???? Doesn’t make sense. This is so wrong. You promote violence against animals and support hunting and trophy hunting.”

Jenners shared his look on Instagram and thanked Schiaparelli and Roseberry. “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. thank you @danielroseberry and @schiaparelli for a special morning. wow I love wearing your handcrafted artificial art creations using man made materials. beautiful beautiful,” Jenner wrote alongside a series of photos.

However, some of his followers criticized his decision to model designs, commenting, “There are times when you say no. This is one of them.”

Another person wrote, “One of your worst fashion mistakes of all time.”

Shayk’s Instagram post also received some criticism. One fan wrote, “Sorry Irina but no matter what you say this is still promoting trophy animal hunting. A big NO.”

Another argued, “Putting a lot of work and effort into creating something doesn’t make it the right thing. As a designer, as a model, as an influential photographer, you have a certain responsibility.”

“I understand that animals are not real, not killed but created. Still, this is a visual reference for trophy hunting. Whether you realize it or not, the campaign is sending very damaging messages to the world. One is defining dead and non-living animals. ” as a luxury. Perhaps driven by the best of intentions, still makes it a very bad idea. Why not accept the reaction of people who care about nature and struggle to live every day?”

However, animal rights nonprofit PETA defended Schiaparelli’s design in a statement to Vanity Fair.

“This incredibly innovative three-dimensional animal head shows that where there is a will, there is a way. We encourage everyone to stick with the 100% cruelty-free design that showcases human ingenuity and prevents animal suffering,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Jenner came under fire again just hours later for wearing another controversial look. The Kylie Cosmetics mogul was photographed wearing a noose necklace from Givenchy, which was heavily criticized when it first debuted in October 2021.

The accessory was shown on the runway as part of Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection during Paris Fashion Week. This quickly drew comparisons to Burberry’s 2019 “noose hoodie” scandal. Burberry issued an apology after debuting a hoodie featuring a snare-like drawstring during London Fashion Week.

Fashion website Diet Prada posted a side-by-side comparison of the noose hoodie and noose necklace, writing, “You’d think the industry would learn not to put noose-like things around models’ necks after the whole @Burberry noose hoodie debacle in 2019’s @givenchyofficial necklace.” just got off the runway heading very close to the same area. Really makes you wonder how no one noticed but sadly history repeats itself.”

On Monday, Jenner shared photo to Instagram where she was seen wearing a Givenchy necklace, which she paired with a bright blue bodycon dress and sparkly pink boots.

Social media users were quick to lash out at the fashion choice. One Twitter user wrote, “Kylie Jenner wearing a noose necklace is disgusting, this woman has no shame whatsoever, did she choose her outfit on purpose knowing full well it would cause controversy?”

Representatives for Jenner did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
