Last night in New York City, fashion designer Frederick Anderson held a fashion event in support of his fight against prostate cancer. For the past 7 years, Anderson and his business partner Laura Miller have held the Blue Jacket Fashion Show, where men’s health is a topic of discussion. The goal is to open a conversation about cancer education, early detection, prevention and treatment options.

The Blue Jacket fashion show brought together the worlds of fashion, entertainment, sport, healthcare and media to foster open dialogue about the impact of prostate cancer, with a critical emphasis on racial differences and marginalized communities.
Thom Browne, Michael Kors, Ben Sherman, Levis, Mens Wearhouse, Stephen F, Bruno Magli, Tommy Hilfiger’s Arjona Collection, Carlos Campos, Epperson, Peyman Umay, Don Morphy, Niyi Okuboyejo, Loris Diran and Terry Singh designed a special blue jacket for the occasion .

In an effort to test men, this year community members, event attendees, and guests were able to screen for prostate cancer with a quick and easy prostate-specific antigen test provided by Mount Sinai Hospital.
ZERO Cancer, a non-profit organization committed to ending racial and health disparities, is sponsoring the event. The organization’s priority is educating black men and testing them early to detect and combat signs of cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among American men and the second leading cause of cancer death, with black men comprising 37% of new cases.
Black men are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed and more than twice as likely to die from prostate cancer than white men,” said Dr. Reggie Tucker-Seeley, Vice President of ZERO Health Equity. “Money, knowledge, order.” power, and beneficial social relations with race contributed to maintaining these differences over time. We cannot end prostate cancer without addressing the root causes of race and place-based differences in prostate cancer.

The event was also sponsored by Janssen Oncology, part of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson.
Janssen Oncology is proud to participate in the Blue Jacket Fashion show, support ZERO, and strengthen efforts to raise awareness and normalize the conversation about prostate cancer among families and the wider community,” said Tyrone Brewer, president of Janssen Oncology, Johnson and Johnson’s pharmaceutical company. “This is a cornerstone initiative for Janssen Oncology that advances our shared goal of reducing health disparities as part of our greater Johnson & Johnson commitment to health equity.
