Celine Stages Her Next Men’s Show at Le Palace Nightclub in Paris – WWD

NIGHT MOVE: Hedi Slimane, who very early showed his fall 2023 women’s collection for Celine last December 8 in Los Angeles, came out late with his men’s fall effort.

The show is scheduled to take place at Paris’ famed Le Palace nightclub on Friday, nearly three weeks after the European men’s show ended.

Often described as Studio 54 Paris, Le Palace is a place of significance for Slimane, who visited it frequently from the age of 16. The French designer claims the venue “sparked her future as a couturier,” according to Celine.

It is also where Slimane celebrated its 50th birthday in 2018.

To be sure, Le Palace has attracted an impressive lineup of fashion designers, led by Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld and Kenzo Takada, along with the likes of Grace Jones, Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, Serge Gainsbourg and Prince.

Celine notes that Le Palace was originally built in the 17th century as a theater and dance hall. It was converted into a discotheque in 1978 when it was taken over by nightlife impresario Fabrice Emaer.

Architect Emaer conscripted Patrick Berger to transform Art Deco interiors with neon chandeliers.

According to a WWD report, Le Palace was so popular during the disco era that it would sometimes take revelers an hour to get from the red velvet balcony to the dance floor.

Slimane has a fondness for the legendary entertainment venue, having held fashion shows at the Hollywood Palladium and the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

Celine’s men’s show coincides with New York Fashion Week, whose official dates are February 10 to 15.
