‘Where’s all the style?’ Crocs connoisseur, David Hockney, criticized modern men’s fashion

David Hockney has been a sharp critic of contemporary men’s fashion, pointing out that there is a lack of true “style” among the current generation.

In an exclusive interview with Independent, the acclaimed British artist discusses his life and work ahead of a groundbreaking new exhibition at London’s Lightroom gallery.

Hockney has long been associated with his own signature fashion sense which includes tweed suits (which he even wears while painting), bow ties and more recently, Crocs.

The 85-year-old made headlines last year after attending a luncheon at Buckingham Palace with King Charles, where he was seen wearing a bright yellow pair of sneakers from the popular outdoor shoe brand, paired with a plaid Savile Row suit and checkered tie. knitting.

The ensemble apparently impressed the British monarch, who was known for his love of gardening. “Your yellow rubber boots! Beautifully chosen,” he exclaimed when he saw Hockney’s Crocs.

Unfortunately, Hockney doesn’t pay the same credit for menswear elsewhere.

Talking about how he recently bought nine new suits in his hometown of Normandy, France, for winter and summer, he commented: “I hate what men wear these days – it’s just tracksuit, where’s the style?”

Hockney’s new exhibition entitled Bigger & Closer (not smaller & farther), opens on 22 February at the Lightrooms gallery in east London.

Described as a reinterpretation of past works, Bigger & Closer will challenge Hollywood with its new vision for cinematic experiences, says Hockey Independent.

“This is a new kind of theatre, a new kind of cinema and it will attract a lot of people,” he said.

“For a hundred years, cinemas attracted large crowds, but that is over, because now you can watch movies on the big screen in your home. This my show, you can’t. This, you must go to. It has to excite and make Hollywood sit up. It will be shown in LA and it will blow their minds. I feel like this is a new round.”
