Men’s Volleyball Moves in Five Sets Losing from Ball Conditions

st. CHARLES, MO.– The Lindenwoodmen volleyball team lost in five tough sets to the Ball State Cardinals Friday night at Hyland Arena.

SUMMARY

The Lions would take a 2-0 lead thanks to a dominant first two sets on their home court. Both offensively and defensively, Lindenwood moved as a unit, taking complete control of the match with ease.

The home team eventually took the first set in a smooth 25-14 win, and Ball State looked stunned by the Lions’ onslaught for most of it. The Lions hit a . 531 star as a team against Ball State’s . 080 strike percentage, sending an immediate message.

The second set, although a little closer on the scoreboard, felt just as breezy as Lindenwood won 25-18. The various Lions were sharp, with all six starters making equal contributions over the first two sets.

It wasn’t until the third set that Ball State seemed to have finally found their footing. However, the Lions are not going down without a fight, but their fight won’t be enough for a clean sweep. The Cardinals took the third set 17-25, forcing a fourth at Hyland Arena.

Lindenwood pressed hard in the fourth, hitting a strong . 379 as a team with hopes of getting a win in four. The Cardinals kept the momentum going in their favor, and would qualify with a 22-25 win late in the fourth quarter.

Ball State took an early lead in the fifth, with the Lions trailing 2-8 by one point. Lindenwood continued to show their grit, holding on as best they could despite the Cardinals’ multiple offensive threats. The Lions would end up 8-15, however, finishing a hard-fought five sets.
