Men’s Volleyball Beats Ohio State in an Epic Five-Set Thriller

st. CHARLES, MO.- The Lindenwoodmen volleyball team came out victorious in a five-set overtime win against Ohio State on Saturday night at Hyland Arena.

The Lions started slowly against the Buckeyes, but midway through the set, they pulled it off. Pair Clay weather aceto making it 14-11 was really a turning point in the Lions’ momentum.

The first set ended in a 25-19 win for the Lions. Ian Schullerhad an incredible set, tallied five kills without error, swung a perfect 1,000 along with contributing four digs and four assist blocks that led the team. AJ Lewis was also a big part of the Lions’ offense, also recording five kills and adding three digs and a block to his first set stat line.

The second set went to the Buckeyes despite a tight race. The visitors appeared late, forcing the Lions into some costly errors towards the end of the set. The final score would read 19-25, heading into a stalemate third set.

Opening the third set on a service error from Ohio State, it looked like a promising start to the set. Lindenwood defended it with a 3-0 run, but the Buckeyes would spring into action after that, stringing together an attack that was hard for the Lions to stop. The final score was 16-25, with the Buckeyes putting the Lions in a hole that was too big to pass.

The fourth set also went back and forth, with neither team really getting ahead of the other at any point in time. The Lions and Buckeyes went point by point basically until the Lions all sat at 19-18. Deadline Lindenwood forced a service error from Ohio State, making it 20-18.

The Lions were able to maintain their lead until the last point, advancing with a 25-22 win to close out the fourth set.

Set five ended in a thrilling overtime victory. With plenty of game back and forth, challenges, timeouts, and overturned calls, the Lions battled their way back to the top for a 22-20 victory in perhaps the most dramatic fashion.
