NBA style power rating: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores points on, off the court

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is in the midst of his best season on the court — and off the court if his pregame outfit counts. Much like his playing, Gilgeous-Alexander’s sense of style was evident from when he was recruited in 2018.

What the team was most curious about Gilgeous-Alexander was his potential. He lives up to expectations and is on his way to exceed them – does that mean game winner while trying to lead his team to a post-season berth or the clothes he wore before the game.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite games of the season from Gilgeous-Alexander so far:

10. 17 November

The magenta button-down leather shirt is perhaps one of the rarer finds. And if you’re new to the Gilgeous-Alexander suit, you can usually expect one of three things (if not all three): boots, baggy pants, and avoiding looking directly into the camera. Everything that he often makes looks cooler than most people.

The brown color of the pants works well to complement the magenta, but Gilgeous-Alexander opted to wear white-and-brown sneakers instead of boots. This match exuded the confidence of a player entering his prime, averaging career highs in points, steals, blocks, free throw percentage, field goal percentage, and minutes.

9. March 16th

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this photo was Travis Scott’s song “3500”. – for some reason. First, Gilgeous-Alexander has a similar mystique to Scott, starting from his hair to his pose that is not facing the photographer. Second, I envision this jacket in a four-point ballpark.

The white sweater and white boots accentuate the white in the coat. I also appreciate the fact that he keeps his pants brown, only with a lighter coat color.

8. 5 Dec

I’ve referred to the movie “Blade” before, but the mismatches I saw throughout the season reminded me of that more than this. In the most stylish way possible.

The simplest way to sum up this all-black suit is “slim”. His leather trench coat glistened slightly, as did his trousers and woven boots. The Chanel Gilgeous-Alexander chains were the only items worn that weren’t black, and they provided a subtle but necessary contrast.

7. January 12th

This brown leather biker jacket with red trim has a vintage look. Gilgeous-Alexander seems to have noticed, too, as he’s also rocking a long Jesus cut, reminiscent of the early 2000s, and jeans with a washed look. His black shirt and boots work as a tone of brown in his jacket.

Throwing a peace sign could be an option for her, but for the sake of nostalgia compatibility, I’m going to assume she did it knowing it’s a classic pose.

6. January 26th

This deliberately worn cardigan stands out immediately. The Chanel logo caught my eye, plus blue in all shades caught my eye. The light denim doesn’t skimp on the blue in the cardigan; it almost makes the blue color more visible.

Additionally, Gilgeous-Alexander’s blue suede tote bag matches the overall theme.

5. November 14th

Given that Gilgeous-Alexander is Canadian, it’s only natural that I include him Canadian tuxedo. For starters, I love dark denim and all the intricate seams. His bucket hat comes in a variety of neutrals with light blue streaks, but nothing seems to go against denim.

And as usual, it wouldn’t fit Gilgeous-Alexander without the boots — and this time, they’re orange. They give color to other outfits that can’t be achieved with just a Canadian tuxedo.

4. Oct. 28

It’s not every day you see a Supreme Yohji Yamamoto Vanson jacket, but it looks like Gilgeous-Alexander has one in his arsenal. My favorite part about this jacket is that each side looks like its own. The Vanson and Supreme logos aren’t even complete on this, but this jacket gives it a bit of an abstract look.

Also pay attention to the rings and key rings hanging from the belt.

3. February 18th

All-Star Weekend is the perfect place for Gilgeous-Alexander to show off his style. This custom Thunder skin mailer was one of several impressive suits the All-Star guard built for that weekend.

This jacket is so colorful and vibrant that Gilgeous-Alexander just opted for a white t-shirt and cream pants. His shirt and boots are the same white color making the color on his pants stand out a bit more.

2. Oct. 30

The Louis Vuitton lettering is pretty impressive, but the baby blue on this jacket adds to it (baby blue is one of my favorite colors). The influence of the late Louis Vuitton creative director, Virgil Abloh, can be seen throughout this jacket, from angelic to bold in every patch.

Gilgeous-Alexander definitely includes close-ups of his tall Air Force 1 engraved with countless Louis Vuitton logos (click slideshow). His BB Simon belt is another highlight of this fit.

For what it’s worth, it’s still considered pregame fit. Sometimes you just can’t wait to get to the arena to take the photo you need.

1. 20 February

Gilgeous-Alexander is a first-time All-Star this season, but this coat has made it look like several times. Plus, Salt Lake City in February, without a doubt, needs a coat of these proportions.

Don’t let the coat take away from the Chrome Heart’s black leather pants. Both are the focal point of the outfit in their own right, making it easy for Gilgeous-Alexander to style in a white, button-up shirt, a pair of chains and Timberland boots. Her Louis Vuitton duffle bag, as well, symbolizes that she’s all business.
