LAKELAND, Fla — Project Prom in Polk County is helping lighten the load for some families this prom season.
This is an 11th year student with UthMpact collecting prom outfits and giving them away for free.
“There is no fee. All they have to do is sign a pledge that they will refrain from risky behavior during prom night,” said organizer, Samantha McCain.
Jenna West is just one of several hundred high school students taking advantage of Project Prom.
“There’s also the food you have to worry about at prom night, the nails, the shoes, and there are so many other factors that go into prom and the dress is just one thing we don’t have to worry about,” says West.
McCain said before covid about 150 dresses were handed out and now it’s about 250.
“Their eyes lit up and they were thrilled that we were able to provide them with this resource,” explains McCain.
Project Prom accepts donations throughout the year. Right now they need men’s clothing. If you’re still in need, April 15th is the last Saturday to get prom dresses.
