On Sunday, Bjrk cut out a Coachella fashion neon noise crop-top top, ripped jean shorts, cowboy boots with a very flattering set of outfits by Japanese designer Kei Ninomiya.
Bjrk, who has worn several Ninomiya-designed ensembles throughout her 2023 world tour, lived up to everyone’s expectations for Coachella style, the rave-meets-boho-chic genre that’s so bad. Granted, we wouldn’t expect the quirky artist famously to appear in floral crowns and maxi skirts—she tends to be more conceptual over trendy (remember her swan dress?).

The Icelandic singer kicked off her look in a leather dress from Ninomiya’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection. On top, the bodice is covered in a thin, glassine spikeskin fiber optic. Attached to the bottom of the garment is a wire bustle covered in a thin black mesh.
The experimental ensemble is just an appetizer for even more outlandish dishes. Later, Bjrk morphed into another spiky Ninomiya design (this one debuted at the FW 2023 designer show in March) that envelops his entire body in glass-like tentacles.
Does he look like illustration of the corona virus or sea anemones, we can all agree: Ninomiya Bjrk’s look was exactly the opposite of what we’ve come to expect from Coachella fashion. They’re also the kind of thing only Bjrk could pull off like every good makeup artist in history, the singer has that “it” factor that gives whatever she wears a special charm.
Sister D’Amelio, pay attention.
