The 2023 Met Gala is coming to an end.
The stars arrive at the annual fashion show on Monday May 1 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. While many celebrities are showing off their Karl Lagerfeld-inspired best, the Met Gala red carpet appears to be ending early as viewers are urged to wait for more to arrive.
The steady stream of star-studded guests began to die down early as celebrities entered The Met museum, leaving what many on social media call an empty red carpet. Rihanna finally made her much-anticipated appearance at the Met Gala on Monday night, moments later Mode ended her red carpet live broadcast.
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which aims to examine the life of a late heritage fashion designer. In keeping with the theme, guests were told that the most authentic approach to the 2023 Met Gala dress code was to wear an archival look from one of Lagerfeld’s leading labels.
They can also opt for a modern look from Chanel or Fendi, two brands for which Lagerfeld has served as creative director. For the third option, guests are advised to find Choupette, the name of the designer’s beloved Birman cat, and a Lagerfeld-style gown.
Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, and Jennifer Lopez all walked the red carpet according to the theme, while some stars were more creative in their Met Gala looks. Doja Cat and Jared Leto, for example, arrived dressed as Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette.
The decision to feature Lagerfeld as this year’s theme has raised eyebrows, with many highlighting the late designer’s controversial statements made during his lifetime. Ahead of the annual fashion event, the models even protested the Met Gala theme.
In addition to Mode editor in chief Anna Wintour, the four co-chairs of this year’s event including pop star Dua Lipa, actor Michaela Coel, actor Penlope Cruz, and tennis legend Roger Federer.

The former tennis star showed off her baby bump as she walked the Met Gala red carpet in a long-sleeved black dress, with a deep v-neckline. The dress also featured a fluffy white skirt decorated with silver sequins.
Williams confirmed her pregnancy in an Instagram post, as well as during a red carpet interview with husband Alexis Ohanian. Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala, she wrote in the caption of her post, which shows Williams holding her stomach.
The couple are already parents to five-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

After a long delay, Rihanna finally posed for photos on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet.
The singer was seen holding hands with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky as she wore a white floral print that covered her entire face. She topped off the look with white cat eye sunglasses, which was adorned with a pair of false eyelashes, and bold red lips.
Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky was seen wearing a black suit with a white button-up shirt, along with a red plaid skirt over baggy jeans.
Their appearance comes after Mode the red carpet live broadcast abruptly ended, as fans awaited their arrival.

Choupette cat Karl Lagerfeld reveals whether she will be attending the Met Gala
While many stars arrive at the Met Gala dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette, the feline darling is about to disappear from the fashion extravaganza.
Ahead of Monday night’s Met Gala, Choupette revealed on Instagram that she won’t be walking the red carpet this year.
Many people have invited me to walk the #METGALA2023 red carpet as a tribute to Dad, but we prefer to stay peaceful and comfortable at home, Choupette’s account wrote in the post. We have paid tribute to my Dad every day since his separation and we are so moved to see another day dedicated to him.
On Instagram, this legendary designer cat has 174k followers.
Following his death in 2019, Choupette will reportedly inherit Lagerfeld’s $150 million fortune.

The Met Gala live stream ended abruptly
Mode abruptly ended his Met Gala livestream on Monday night after the host tried to keep the show going, despite the obviously empty red carpet.
It seems that the stream of star-studded guests is winding down early, as celebrities make their way inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
ThatMode the live broadcast’s co-host told viewers to take a cold pill and keep waiting for more to arrive, but ultimately ended the show at 9:22 p.m.

Doja Cat dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette for the Met Gala
The 27-year-old singer came to the 2023 Met Gala wearing the legendary fashion designer’s iconic cat costume, Choupette.
The white, sequined Oscar De La Renta gown was completed with a long, fluffy train, and sequined cat ears. For her makeup, Doja uses prosthetics to really look like a cat.
She completed her look with a silver headpiece and matching bracelet and ring.
