If spring cleaning has you weeding out clothes you haven’t worn recently or kitchen items you no longer use, your local nonprofit will be happy to take items in good condition off your hands to help those in need.

Here are some places to donate clothing and other items in San Antonio.

Christian Relief Services

CAM provides the necessary safety net for vulnerable and at-risk populations. The organization, located downtown and northwest of San Antonio, will provide daily sack lunches, bags of groceries, financial aid, school supplies and clothing. The most commonly needed items include children’s clothing sizes 6 to 18, jeans and men’s shoes, women’s bras and men’s and women’s underwear that are still in one package.

Right now, downtown campuses need bras of all sizes and men’s jeans. The northwestern campus requires men’s shoes and women’s socks. Further information can be found at CAM website.

Family Violence and Prevention Services

This organization helps families in need through education, emergency shelter, traditional housing and early intervention. It also requires clothing, food and household donations for people in need.

Necessary donations include new socks, boys’ and girls’ still gently used sweaters and jackets, women’s and children’s pajamas and diapers for ages 5, 6 and 7 years. The entire list of acceptable donations is at donation center website.

Boysville Auxiliary Thrift Store

Boysville provides short-term emergency shelter for girls and boys in need in Converse, Texas, as well as foster and adoption services. All profits made at the thrift store go to the organization and the children it cares for. The store accepts all new or used clothing, shoes and furniture. It also requires small appliances such as coffee machines, blenders and flat screen televisions.

Hope Arms

This non-profit Christian care organization provides assistance to mothers and children in need with a child home just 60 miles northwest of San Antonio. Accepts clothes and shoes of all sizes for men, women and children as well as accessories, such as wallets, backpacks and belts. Organizations also take books, toys, and small equipment.

Arms of Hope too offer to pick up donations from your home at no cost.

Dress for Success

Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that helps low-income women find and keep jobs in San Antonio. They are primarily focused on career development and access to professional clothing through donations. Organization will accept appropriate interview attire, such as jackets, blouses, trousers, closed shoes, portfolios and handbags.

All clothes donated must be dry-cleaned or washed first because many clients will be interviewed by Dress for Success. Outdated clothing and makeup will not be accepted.
