Inditex Trent is seeking space in leading malls in Mumbai and Delhi for both brands

New Delhi:Thirteen years later Zara entered India and stamped his authority on the country’s fashion scene, Spains Inditex it is now even more bullish in the country and poised to simultaneously bring two brands Pull&Bear and Bershka here, according to three people familiar with the developments.

They are seeking space for Pull&Bear and Bershka in several leading malls in Delhi and Mumbai, said a person familiar with the developments.

Others say Inditex is seeking between 5,000 square feet and 6,000 square feet of space for the Pull&Bear and company officials have held talks or requested space on the premises. Choose Citywalk And DLF Mall in New Delhi and Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai. Inditex officials have told them that the ideal space requirement for the Pull&Bear is around 8,000 square feet, the person said.

He said Inditex wants to introduce Pull&Bear and Bershka in India by 2024.

They might even introduce Pull&Bear a bit ahead of Bershka in India, he said. They’re really pleased with the response Zara is getting here and they’re excited about the Indian market with a large young population.

A spokesperson for Inditex in India declined to comment.

IndiaRetailing had reported in December that Inditex parent company Zara plans to open a Bershka store in India next year. Inditex is in talks with Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru for space to open Bershka there and the upcoming mall has allocated around 5,000 square feet on the ground floor of the shopping center for Bershka, IndiaRetailing had reported in December stories.

IndiaRetailing has also reported that a high-power Inditex delegation from headquarters will be here in India in late 2022 for a market survey. Delegates visited malls in New Delhi and Mumbai among other cities.

Amancio Ortega, billionaire founder of Inditex SA, launched Pull&Bear in 1991 after the success of Zara, his flagship brand. In its early years, Pull&Bear launched as a men’s fashion label but later repositioned it as a youthful brand catering to both men and women.

Inditex has reasons to be bullish on India and the Spanish fashion giant ranks the country among its future markets. Flagship Zara posted a 40% jump in sales in India in fiscal 2023 as millions of Indians step up their fashion and spend money on their looks, creating greater opportunities for global fashion and lifestyle labels.

Inditex Trenta joint venture between the Spanish fashion giant and Tata Groupreported a jump in net profit of 77% to 264 crore during fiscal year 2023 while revenue increased to 2562.5 crore for the same fiscal year.

Zara is operated in India through a 51:49 joint venture between Spain’s Inditex and Tata-owned Trent Ltd. The two groups have other JVs to sell Massimo Dutti in India. Inditex Trent Retail India operates 21 Zara stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Surat, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Gurugram.
