In an exclusive interview with theGrio, Jordyn Woods reflects on Paris Men’s Fashion Week, her personal style and the gender fluidity of fashion.

This week, Paris is hosting Men’s Fashion Week 2023, and this year is definitely different. While menswear doesn’t usually get as much love and attention as womenswear, from this week’s star-studded guest list to innovative designs on the runways, the eyes of fashion lovers everywhere trained on the streets of Paris.

For those who don’t know, during fashion week, luxury fashion brands take over the city, hosting a myriad of events showcasing their latest collections. I love Mens Fashion Week, says model, influencer and new fashion CEO Jordyn Woods in an exclusive interview with theGrio. Fashion is fashion; it doesn’t matter what gender you are. It’s great to see the art and all the time and effort the designers put into their shows.

I wear a lot of men’s clothing, continued Woods. I love and own a lot of oversized clothes. So it’s great to come and be here in Paris and see the creatives and how much energy and effort they put into their collection.

However, appearances are presented And off the runway as celebrities often show up in off-the-runway looks chosen by labels. For example, Woods shared his excitement for the Kenzo show, which Artistic Director Nigo choose clothes for her. Attending the show with her NBA superstar boyfriend Karl-Anthony Towns, the long-time couple are also happy to see labels like Hermes, Botter and Kid Super this season.

“I think fashion has evolved so much, but I appreciate when a designer is actually having fun and setting themselves apart from the crowd,” said Woods. But there are so many new and up-and-coming designers popping up, and it’s really interesting to see how they’ve each put their own stamp on fashion.

As an influencer and entrepreneur, Woods continues to leave his mark on the fashion world. Over the years, he was 12.3 million Instagram followers have glimpsed the evolution of the socialite style.

I think as I’ve gotten older and matured, I’ve evolved and found my most complimenting silhouettes, she says, reflecting her personal style. For me, style is being able to be a different person every time you step out of the house. And I don’t think I have one particular style; for me, it’s all about how you feel that day and what makes you feel most confident.

While she favors a feminine, form-fitting look, Woods has also expressed her appreciation for oversized unisex clothing. From oversized trenches or blazers to nice cargo pants or baggy pants, Woods says he loves incorporating men’s fashion into his looks even if he can’t borrow from a seven-foot partner’s wardrobe.

When it comes to fashion, the gender lines are increasingly blurred. From Rihanna advertising Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection for stars like Jaden Smith and A$AP Rocky proudly wearing rocking skirts, fashion has long transcended society’s typical gender norms.

“I love how gender converges in the sense of fashion, where so many pieces are unisex now,” said Woods. It’s not just women’s clothing or men’s clothing anymore. You see dresses in menswear shows and womenswear suits. It is no longer determined by gender, skin color, race or size. That’s subjective, he added.

As a consumer and producer of emerging fashion, Woods sees fashion week through a different lens. Earlier this year, he launched Woods by Jordyn, a label created to empower women. The brand, whose next collection will be released later this summer, caters to all body types with the hope of making every customer feel like a masterpiece.

I know how much time, effort, and especially money went into putting all this together, says the founder and CEO. Even just from a manufacturing and time perspective, to build a collection and put it out there. So yeah, I’m definitely looking at the show from a different lens now. I think I appreciate the art of it all a lot more now.
