Last night, Parisians walking along the banks of the River Seine witnessed an extraordinary sight when a skate park appeared on the Pont Alexandre III. Around 600 people gathered to witness fashion-filled events: Vans’ grand show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, where the brand announced its newest principle collection; OTW by Vans. For the announcement, OTW by Vans partnered with Unitedfront (a multidisciplinary creative agency) and PLAYLAB, INC. (a Los Angeles-based creative studio, and longtime partner of California Skateparks) to create a short trail.
Among the guests in attendance were Lourdes Leon, Fai Khadra, Amelia Gray and Haider Ackermann, who were treated to wine, beer and cocktails while excitedly watching Vans skateboarders Lizzie Armanto, Zion Wright, Rowan Zorilla, Beatrice Domond, Etienne Gagne , and Mami Tezuka. Meanwhile, the Onyx Collective curates the music and the Eiffel Tower gleams in the background.
“It’s my first time in Paris, so it’s a bit overwhelming,” said Domond. “I look more at monuments and museums, I go to the Eiffel Tower. I naturally look at people’s shoes all the time, people are very well dressed here!” he took notes.
Armanto was also amazed; “Sliding right by the river with the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop is unforgettable. Seeing the Vans step up with an event like this is so cool as a rider, I feel like they are pushing themselves in a different way, and I feel like I can feel for that with skating, You always push yourself to do different things.”
Shortly after 9pm, the audience, including Evan Mock, gathered closer as the talented 28 year old British singer, King Krule, began his performance. “Looks like the whole town is dressed up!” commented Mami Tezuka, looking at the fashion-forward guests who had gathered for the event.
