After months of waiting, the X-Men finally had their slash fashion show the culmination of their super-powered slash diplomacy party, and the Hellfire Gala was the hottest ticket.
From the Fantastic Four to Doctor Doom, and Russian dignitaries to the alien Shiar, truly a comic book show has never been more perfectly calibrated to deliver the Monday Funnies promise from the public pages on superhero life, from many real world celebrities that Marvel artists sneak into the Gala crowd into little moments of crossover fun between the Marvel Comics umbrellas.
Except Deadpool.
What else is happening on the pages of our favorite comics? Well tell you. Welcome to Monday Funnies, the weekly list of Polygons books our comic editors enjoyed last week. Some community pages about superhero life, some reading recommendations, some looking at this cool art. There might be some spoilers. There may not be enough context. But there will be good comics. (And if you missed the last issue, read this.)

A proper gala starts with a problem Robber, with Emma Frost as the hostess to the entire Marvel universe, and it gets a lot of great little moments. Doctor Strange heaved a sigh of relief at not being the most dressed up person in the room, Ben Grimm found an even worse mutant in their gambling corner, and then, too. this.

And then there’s the pure moment of Venture Bros hell.

Am I good to talk about the twist at the end of James Tynions? Nice House on the Lake #1 now? If not, keep scrolling.
A group of acquaintances brought together by one of their kind but strange friends are all invited to a weekend at a lake house to celebrate the 2021 Vaccine Summer, only for their friend to reveal that he is the vanguard of an alien invasion that has just started the apocalypse but he likes them all too much. much to let them die so he made this perfect home and now if they were all just going to quarantine themselves in there and pretend everything was fine while the world burned around them he loved it and I swear it really is nightmare I had last week.

Marvels Star Wars Comics kicked off their own crossover this week with a shocking surprise: Everything about the main characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Representation of race can be tricky when it comes to alien characters raised on Earth, such as Crush, an abandoned alien baby raised in the US by Latino parents. But when a super strong girl stands around, biceps protruding from a tee she’s clearly tearing sleeves off herself, brewing herself a mocha pot and moaning about how her boyfriend broke up with her, I have only one thing to say: Crush is a Latinx representation and also does he want my number?

There are only three more problems from Immortal Hulklk left and boy how am I going to miss Joe Bennetts page spread.

Props to Ram V for writing this exposition-filled joke, but additional props for Xermanico for rendering it in a way that made me laugh out loud.
