The virtual world has become one of the few relatively safe spaces for queer expression, providing space for sharing the endless dimensions of our complex reality. It offers an opportunity to escape the physical world, where the lack of acceptance is glaring, becoming a utopia of affirming validation and support.
This virtual world is not without danger. Coexistence is mandatory and cannot be separated at all. Maybe that’s why many of us design ourselves to be post-human, or rather, interspecies on one leg in each world. Shielded by tacky armor we made ourselves for protection, we continue our search for our true identities.
The immaterial journey is unlimited, but the wanderer is not. Under, David Oldenburg and Luke Nugent visualize this for PAPER through CGI shoots that challenge traditional production processes and feature fashion designers who invest in escaping our own reality with sci-fi retro futuristic silhouettes.
