Aquinnah Llewellyn may not have a traditional high school graduation ceremony this year, but that didn’t stop her from celebrating with her graduation gown.

18-year-old Winnipegger, who officially graduated from Collge Bliveau this week, wore the dress she hopes to wear as she receives her diploma to receive her second dose of COVID-19 over the weekend.

We’re not having a big banquet or anything, so it’s a place to show it off and get people to see it, Llewellyn told Global News Morning this week.

Llewellyn, who celebrated her 18th birthday three days before getting her second injection on Saturday, said she bought the dress knowing that a traditional graduation ceremony was impossible, and it was her father who suggested dressing up for the vaccination.

The staff at the vaccine clinic were very impressed.

Llewellyn said workers asked about his clothes as he passed the vaccine line, and while he was waiting 15 minutes after the shot, one of them came over and handed him a hand-made card.

Written in blue ink and decorated with balloons and graduation caps, the card reads “Happy Graduation” on the front and includes the signature of the clinic staff on the inside.

“It made me very emotional,” Llewellyn said.

Llewellyn has since worn the dress for graduation trips and for photos with friends after getting her diploma on Tuesday, and ironically, she says she likely would have worn it more than she would have had if COVID-19 had not changed school graduation plans. .

“Even my sister yesterday said she was jealous of all the clothes I took out of that dress, not one day,” she laughs.

I honestly think I just made more money out of the dress.

Now that he is fully vaccinated, Llewellyn says he is looking forward to the opportunity to travel with his family and spend time with his grandparents.

Llewellyn will begin work on a science degree at the Universit de Saint-Boniface in the fall.
