A bride who wore 30 wedding dresses from Boohoo and spent less than 2,500 on her big day has revealed her secret to shopping smart.

Emma Bryan, 39, married partner Gavin Bryan, 40 in York after spending nearly two years saving up for the wedding.

But with Covid restrictions and her son Isaac Bryan, eight, to care for, Emma decided she wanted to keep costs down and managed to plan the whole day for under 2,500.

After trying on wedding dresses worth thousands of pounds, the bride chose 30 wedding dresses from fast fashion company Boohoo which she said made her feel ‘better’ than the more expensive alternatives.

The couple also managed to find bargains online – finding their son’s suit for just $50 on eBay and spending just 17 on his wedding shoes on sale.

Emma, from Castleford, Wakefield, said: “We got engaged in November 2019 but we wanted to wait a bit – 2,500 is still a lot of money for us!

“None of us wanted a big wedding because we don’t like being the center of attention, so we wanted something very intimate that only our closest family and friends attended.

“We were staying at Galtres Lodge in York and just walked to the registry office – I couldn’t justify paying for a car to take me a few minutes down the road.

The ring costs 575

“There were only four guests at the wedding – my bridesmaid, son and two witnesses,” Emma added.

“After the ceremony, we went back to the hotel, took our own pictures and then had afternoon tea.

“The whole day was perfect – it was better than we imagined because there was no pressure and we were both not nervous so the whole day felt natural and special.

“We did everything in our own time and managed to save thousands of pounds”.

Emma, a financial assistant, and Gavin, a warehouse worker, manage to keep marriages under 2,500 by looking into details and keeping the number of marriages low.

Most of their budget is spent on accommodation and hair and makeup – for a total cost of 968.

Emma added: “We save money by taking our own pictures instead of hiring a photographer and just having a simple afternoon tea instead of a full three course meal.

“My biggest tip is to focus on what you want and why you want to get married.

“That day was supposed to be about the two of you not impressing a bunch of strangers you haven’t spoken to in months.

“Don’t think you have to have a big wedding dress because you can feel just as amazing with something from Boohoo, ASOS or Dorothy Perkins.

“I tried a big dress and nothing made me feel this good, a little lace dress from Boohoo that I got for 30.

“Don’t talk about getting more than you need because a lot of hotels and venues will tend to charge more because it’s a wedding.

“We didn’t have a wedding cake – we just had a small cake that came with afternoon tea!

“Check eBay, Etsy and all the sales because you can find some great deals – my son’s suit was supposed to be 100 but we got it for 50 off eBay”.
