BDS approves new dress code policy
CITY OF PANAMA, FL. (WMBB) The school board of the Bay District School held a meeting on Tuesday, where they finalized the district’s dress code policy. The policy requires finalization, because the old policy will expire. If the new dress code is not implemented, the district will revert to the Michael Pre-Hurricane dress code, which requires wearing a shirt and belt.
Those are the 12 principles of elementary, middle and high schools that come together and say, this is what makes Bay District Schools, said Bay District School Board Chairman Steve Moss. And I value their opinion in the trenches so to speak everyday as a principle. They brought these changes back to the board and that’s what we voted for today.
However, some parents did not agree with the new dress code policy being implemented.
In my opinion, I think that the school board’s focus should be more on educating children than some of the policies we have, Chris Burnham, parent of three BDS students says. We need to have educators who educate children.
While Moss said he understands that the policy will not be perfect, he believes most district students and parents will appreciate the new dress code.
“The great feedback I’ve had from parents, I mean so too for that, some are against it,” Moss said. I have a unique perspective. I’m the only board member with kids in the school system. I am a parent myself, not only am I a member of the school board I am a parent.
However, Burnham said that she plans to dress her children in any way she sees fit, regardless of what the district policy is.
“When it comes to printing designs and stuff like that, I’ll send my kids to school because you know what I think makes sense,” Burnham said. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on certain clothes and things like that.
