Saint Laurent debuting Men’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection with the show on Wednesday, complete with disclosures that—per press release—happened “inside” artworks” by Doug Aitken.
In June, Saint Lauren confirmed that creative director Anthony Vaccarello had commissioned Aitken for a large-scale site-specific installation that the French fashion house would offer Venice and the public. The artwork itself, which serves as the venue for the Spring/Summer 2022 show on Wednesday, will remain accessible to the public until July 30.

“Saint Laurent’s cult iconography has always combined creative disciplines across art and fashion,” Vaccarello said Wednesday. “Through this collaboration, I wanted to combine the artistic visions of various fields in a unique work of art.”
Here’s more on Aitken’s work, straight from the Saint Laurent team:
“Located on the island of Isola Della Certosa, Green Lens is a work of art for living experiences as well as a destination, a place to explore, inspire and be inspired. It will evoke the future through a crystal reflective interior that reveals a kaleidoscopic view and dense botanical surroundings. It will be a standalone work of art, and from the outside, it will create a combination of reflections mixed with clouds, mist and wild green vegetation that evokes a mysterious presence. Inside the statue there will be a huge space like a living kaleidoscope that reflects the changing landscape, sky and environment. This installation turns landscapes into living abstractions.”
Late last month, Saint Laurent revealed A 2021 denim collection that takes inspiration from the 1970s through distressed jackets and blazers. The collection had been teased months earlier with videos featuring Hailey Bieber, Anok Yai, Romeo Beckham, Sonny Hall, Megan Miles, and more.
Doug Aitken, meanwhile, is making headlines early this year for his multiscreen film installation collaboration with the LA Dance Project. The film’s immersive experience deals with the pandemic, albeit in an abstract and personally unique way.
“2020, and from what we’ve seen in 2021—it’s kind of a new era that we’re living in,” Aitken notified Deborah Vankin for Los Angeles Times in February. “And maybe this work is trying to be shared [that idea] with people, to build bridges to help us navigate that, help us understand where we are and where we could potentially go.”
