TOKYO (Japan) – Superstar Dusan Bulut rediscovered his best to power undefeated Serbia with an impressive 21-14 win over Belgium on day two of the men’s 3×3 Olympic competition.
Bulut aka ‘Mr Bullutproof’ unstoppable with a game-high 13 points – the second time in four games he has scored a double – to ensure Serbia stay in the box seats for an automatic place in the semifinals, which are awarded the top two teams in the preliminary round.
The No.1 seed is the only men’s team to go unbeaten on a dramatic first day and they extended their winning streak with a tough comeback win over Poland earlier on day one.
In-form Belgium, who were the last team to book tickets to Tokyo, have been a surprise 3×3 this year and come into the game with a 2-1 record after earlier on the second day beating the Russian Olympic Committee in a physical clash. .
But after a bright start they couldn’t stop the one-man Bulut show.
Vasic pulls out the trick
Bulut, who started his last two games slowly, came out of the glass in fine fashion but Serbia had to work hard to get to the basket and found themselves in foul trouble.
It was the big man Mihailo Vasic -and not Bulut – who made the spotlight slick on the back of a pass to Aleksandar Ratkov. But slightly separates the team at the middle mark.
Block party
It’s not often Bulut is made to look stupid but he did when his sure-fire layup was emphatically denied by Rafael Bogaerts as Belgium wouldn’t let Serbia into the groove.
Bulut takes over
Bulut really found his way when he scored twice from the logo and then handed Vasic a sweet treat to give Serbia a 15-11 lead. He finishes the job in style with two pieces.
Hero
Bulut ignored a quiet game against Poland with a masterclass nailing 7-of-10 from the field, including the paired trio. He sent an ominous warning to the field.
