Ohio coronavirus update Thursday: 1,205 new cases reported

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The Ohio Department of Health has released the latest number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

As of Thursday, July 29, a total of 1,126,625 (+1,205) cases have been reported since the start of the pandemic, resulting in 61,833 (+80) hospitalizations and 8,458 (+6) intensive care admissions. A total of 5,745,422 Ohioans – 49.15% of the state’s population – have begun the vaccination process. This is an increase of 11,481 from the previous day.

The ODH reported 23 more deaths on Tuesday, bringing the total to 20,490. The state updates the total number of deaths only after processing death certificates, usually twice a week.

Data compiled from state health sources show that COVID-19 cases in Ohio are slowly increasing, prompting health experts to report possible new outbreaks.

As the most contagious delta variant of COVID-19 crosses Ohio, The data shows that young people account for a larger share of cases because their age groups are the least vaccinated in the state.
