As the new school year approaches, state officials have set up COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Vermont schools to encourage vaccination against the virus.
The first wave of these clinics will be held from August 8 to 15 and vaccines are free. The clinics are meant to facilitate the vaccination of students and their families, but they are also open to the general public, according to a press release from Gov. Phil Scott’s office.
People aged 12 and older are currently eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer. Nationwide trials are underway to make sure the vaccine is safe and effective for those under 12 years of age.
“The best way to keep your child healthy – and to ensure a smooth return to in-person learning – is to make sure they are vaccinated,” the press release said. “The vaccines are safe and very effective, including against the Delta variant. A few weeks away from school, now is the time to start the vaccination process.”
The clinics accept anyone who shows up without an appointment, but people can also make an appointment to reserve their spot, the statement said. Appointments can be made online or over the phone by visiting healthvermont.gov/MyVaccine or by calling 855-722-7878.

Children between the ages of 12 and 17 need the consent of a parent or guardian before being vaccinated. If they do not make an appointment through the state website, they must either bring their parent or guardian to the clinic with them to give their consent, or bring a consent form from the immunization clinic and a completed pre-vaccination checklist, which are available on the state website.
School clinics will be held throughout the fall. State officials encourage residents of Vermont to continue checking the Ministry of Health website for other possibilities to get vaccinated. Walk-in vaccine opportunities are also still ongoing across the state, including at a number of pharmacies.

- Crossett Brook Middle School: 5672 Route 100, Duxbury. Clinic scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering the first dose of Pfizer vaccine.
