LA County Board of Supervisors to ‘Explore’ Vaccination Requirement to Enter Indoor Public Spaces

ANGELS – the Los Angeles County The watchdog will discuss in more detail a vaccination requirement to enter many indoor public spaces on Tuesday.

Supervisor Janice Hahn told FOX 11 during the station’s special report that county supervisors would explore the option during Tuesday’s meeting.

“I think it’s time for LA County to at least explore the possibility of requiring people to show proof of vaccination before they enter public spaces in LA County, ”Hahn said.

Hahn said the board would vote on whether to explore the option on Tuesday.

“By explore, I mean we’re going to ask our county attorneys, county health workers, and county officials who work with companies to report back to us in 14 days and advise the county watchdog. about our options … if we think this is the next step to protect public health, ”Hahn said.

WHICH COMPANIES SHOULD REQUEST A PROOF OF VACCINE?

Hahn said they could focus on non-essential businesses.

“Maybe we’re just doing non-essential business and making sure everyone can access their groceries,” she said.

Sierra Fitness, a community gym specializing in private training in Sierra Madre, already requires proof of vaccination to enter the gym. The owner, Sandy Duvall, implemented the policy.

“Instead of going back with that, I think I was the first to put up a sign and say that vaccinated members are welcome because I think that’s the only way we’re going to move forward on this. field and I’m so excited that a lot of companies and businesses are doing it now, ”Duvall said.

Duvall said she was pushed back, but also received a lot of positive feedback. She said she wanted to protect her clients as much as possible.

“My duty is to protect our community, to protect our customers, my employees, my staff. I really think that for our country and for our community to move forward here, it is the only solution,” she said. .

The facility includes a newer outdoor gym with several machines and equipment and has also offered discounts to vaccinated guests.

“We have a very high percentage of vaccinated people who come here, but we had to turn away people who came and who are not vaccinated at this point. I hope they will and I hope we can overcome that. so we are not so divided, ”she said.

Duvall said she was not a fan of the government imposing vaccine requirements although she implemented a policy on her own.

“I believe in science. It’s not political at all to me. I’m not keen on the government coming and doing this, but I think it needs to be done now because our rates are so raised in hospitals and so many people are dying right in front of us, ”Duvall said.

At the city level, Los Angeles City Council Chairman Nury Martinez and City Councilor Mitch O’Farrell brought forward a motion that would require Angelenos to prove they received at least one COVID-19 vaccine injection to enter restaurants, bars, retail stores, fitness centers, spas, cinemas and entertainment venues.

If the proposal is approved, it will still need to be approved by LA City Council and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti.
