Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine May Offer Better Protection Against Delta Variant Than Pfizer / BioNTech Vaccine, Says report by Reuters.

The effectiveness of Moderna’s vaccine increased from 86% to 76% between early 2021 and July, according to a study by Mayo Clinic Health System. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of Pfizer / BioNTech’s vaccine increased from 76% to 42%.

The study spans the days before the Delta variant began to circulate widely in the United States until it emerged as the most dominant strain in the country.

The report says anyone who received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine may need a Moderna booster if they were immunized earlier this year.

Both vaccines, however, remain effective in preventing hospitalizations, according to the report.

Another study found that the Moderna vaccine also provided older residents of Ontario nursing homes with stronger immune responses than the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.
