Mike Trout discusses battle for mental health while dealing with injury – OutKick

Mike Trout says he hopes to return to the Los Angeles Angels roster this season, despite a calf injury that has sidelined him since May, but the center fielder believed he would be back now.

“I’m just trying to get back,” Trout noted. “Obviously we’re running out of time here, but my main goal is to get back on the pitch anytime. … This is one of the most difficult things I have experienced in my career. I have suffered a few injuries, but this thing is difficult. I never realized how much I was using my calf.

Sometimes Trout seemed in a good mood, saying he was feeling better every day.

“It’s a chore”, Trout noted before Saturday’s game against the Indians. “I come every day, I work hard, and I feel like it’s dragging on. It tires me a bit. But I remain positive.

Trout said he had frequent conversations with Angels manager Joe Maddon about his calf during his recovery, but the manager also advised him to keep his head up.

“Mental health is a serious thing, man,” Trout said. “Nothing to watch out for. “

Yahoo Sports reports that the key to Trout’s recovery, he said, was to get to a point where he could play the day after practice. The wound is healed, but the scar tissue has yet to be broken down.

The timing of a rehabilitation mission remains uncertain.
